Many people do not realize that the U.S. government is the owner of nearly 86 percent of the land within Nevada. The nickname “The Silver State” originated with the 1859 discovery of silver at Comstock Lode, which resulted in a population boom. During the 20th century, Nevada became a tourist destination due to the legalization of gambling and lenient restrictions regarding marriage and divorce.

Tourism is still the largest employment sector within the state but mining is a strong contender. This state produces the fourth largest amount of gold on the planet. Both of these industries have a strong need for project managers with very different skill sets. They are needed to spearhead construction projects for the development of hotels, casinos, and other entertainment venues. They are also in demand to oversee mining exploration and development.

DeVry Institute selected Henderson as the location for one of its campuses. There, it offers a master of science program and a graduate certificate in project management. The College of Southern Nevada, Great Basin College, Nevada State College, Las Vegas College, Sierra Nevada College, University of Southern Nevada, and University of Nevada Reno and Las Vegas campuses also offer undergraduate or graduate programs in project management.

Before applying to one of these Nevada project management schools, individuals may be interested in knowing the employment outlook within the state. There are currently thousands of jobs available in the field of project management. Employment statistics are most positive in the areas of construction and information technology. Nevada was hard hit by the economic recession but is positioned for future growth.
