In any given project you must be able to plan out what the objects of the job are. In this respect during your meetings with the prospective client you must be clear on all the points raised and understand what the client’s priorities are and what they expect from you.
If you choose to embark on a career in project management you'll need to evaluate any risks that may occur during the process and work out how to avoid them. Your client will not thank you if you’re constantly referring to them for advice on work that you should be capable of dealing with yourself.
Estimating how much the project will cost, breaking it down into each section of the work, and then allocating the resources required is an essential part of your job. So many projects go over budget and your clients will not thank you for an enormous bill over and above the initial sum quoted.
In this respect it’s essential to work out the schedules for each section and acquire any materials required, allocating them to various parts of the project most suited for the tasks.
You must be involved at all times with the execution of the project, and direct the activities of those involved. Your involvement will enable you to report the progress of the job in hand to your clients, thus keeping them informed at all stages.

If you’ve planned and designed the project to the customer’s satisfaction, most of these problems will be relatively minor. Therefore as a Project Manager it’s within your grasp to make the whole exercise a smooth and efficient one.
If you’re enthusiastic about every element of the project this will project itself to your staff enabling you to get the very best work out of them. Enthusiasm and motivation is the order of the day, every day.
Keep up with every aspect and ensure that the execution of the project is being carried out satisfactorily. Any blips can be sorted out quickly and easily at any given stage thus avoiding extra time being spent at the end.
Once the project is completed it’s essential to support the customer by correcting any errors as they arise, up-dating software where necessary, and in general being on the end of the telephone to answer any queries or problems they may have. In other words, once the project has left your domain, you must still be available to help out in any way possible in order to retain a satisfied client.
A Project Management Career is demanding, exacting but exciting also. It takes dedication and a lot of hard work but in the end it can be extremely rewarding both financially and in terms of job satisfaction.
